Unit 35

New Note

There are three Forms of the E Minor Scale. Memorize these scales.

Low E tends to be sharp in pitch on the bassoon. To bring the pitch down, lean on the top blade of the reed (slightly), lower your jaw, and roll out your bottom lip more than usual. Shape the inside of your mouth as if you were saying, “aw”. When playing from E1 to F#1, do not lift the thumb. Slide it from the low E key to the thumb F# key.

Leopold Mozart, the composer of this tune, was the father of the more famous Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
